MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has delivered a massive blow to the city’s drug network, conducting six separate raids across the region last week. The operation resulted in the seizure of narcotics valued at over ₹4 crore in the illicit market and the arrest of 10 alleged drug peddlers.
The crackdown successfully confiscated significant quantities of two dangerous substances:
- Heroin: A total of 739 grams was seized.
- Mephedrone (MD): A total of 452 grams was seized.
Key Raid Details: Targeting Supply Hubs
The raids were strategically carried out by different ANC units, hitting major distribution points in the city:
- Borivli & Goregaon (Kandivli Unit): This unit made some of the largest seizures, recovering 511 grams of heroin (valued at ₹2.04 crore) from two suspects in Borivli, and an additional 123 grams near the Devipada subway.
- Dindoshi: In a separate search, the ANC seized 230 grams of MD (worth ₹57.5 lakh) from a peddler operating in the area.
- Other Units: The Bandra Unit arrested two individuals, seizing 105 grams of heroin, while the Azad Maidan and Worli units confiscated additional quantities of MD in Goregaon (West) and Dharavi respectively.
- Cash Seizure: In addition to the drugs, investigators recovered ₹5.87 lakh in cash, believed to be the proceeds from the illegal sale of the narcotics.
Investigation Underway
DCP (ANC) Navnath Dhavale stated that cases have been registered in all three instances under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police are now focused on tracing the source of the drugs, which often links back to suppliers in other states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, and dismantling the larger syndicates responsible for trafficking and distribution.
