Malabar Hill Elevated Nature Trail
The Malabar Hill Elevated Nature Trail, also known as the Malabar Hills Forest Walk Way or Nisarga Unnat Marg, is Mumbai’s first elevated tree-top walkway, offering a unique natural escape in the heart of the city.
This project was developed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and designed by IMK Architects, taking inspiration from Singapore’s renowned Tree Top Walk.
Here are the key details about the trail:
Overview and Features
-
Location: Malabar Hill, Mumbai, connecting Kamala Nehru Park to the adjacent Doongerwadi Woods. The primary entry and exit point is on Siri Road, behind Kamala Nehru Park.
-
Design & Length: The walkway is a 482 to 485-meter-long and 2.4-meter-wide wooden deck supported by steel columns. It is elevated up to 5 meters above the ground in some parts, allowing visitors to walk among the treetops with minimal disturbance to the forest floor and tree root systems.
-
The Experience: It traverses a 12.5-acre patch of lush, tropical micro-forest, which is one of the last remaining natural ecosystems in the area. The experience is designed to be a peaceful, nature-oriented retreat from the city’s hustle.
